Gabrielle Union
Gabrielle Monique Union was born on October 29, 1973 in Omaha, Nebraska. At age eight she moved with her family to Pleasanton, California. She was a talented and active athlete in high school and participated in basketball, soccer and track at Foothill High School. In high school, she met and dated Jason Kidd, who is now a famous NBA basketball star. In 1992 Union suffered a tragic assault. She was raped and beaten at gunpoint while at work in a shoe store. The attacker left the scene and was not immediate caught. Later, he turned himself over to the police after another rape. The rapist received a thirty-three year jail sentence after a plea bargain. Union is understandably vehement about testifying at his parole hearings to ensure that he is not released early from jail. Union is now very active in Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault organizations and she visited Congress to make her voice heard on the subject of these crimes. She began her college education at the University of Nebraska, later transferring to Cuesta College and then UCLA to earn her bachelor's degree in sociology. While at UCLA she interned at a modeling agency. The agency asked her to sign a modeling contract with them. Needing money to pay off college loans and debts she agreed to the contract and became a fashion model. She later auditioned for and won a role in Bring It On which was released in 2000. From this film she won world wide attention. She has been in many films since Bring It On, including: Love & Basketball, Abandon, Bad Boys II, Deliver Us From Eva, The Honeymooners, Running With Scissors and Daddy's Little Girl. Gabrielle married boyfriend Chris Howard on May 5, 2001. Tidbits
