Kelly Clarkson
Kelly Clarkson was born on April 24, 1982 in Fort Worth, Texas. She was raised in Burleson, Texas. She is the youngest of three children. Her parents divorced when she was six years old. She remained living with her mother while her brother lived with their father and her sister moved in with an aunt. Her mother moved a lot in her younger years in an effort to find work in order to provide for her family. They settled in Burleson when her mother remarried. Clarkson was encouraged to join the school choir in high school by one of her teachers. She moved to LA hoping to establish a career as a singer. She scraped enough money together to create a demo CD, but was disappointed when she got little response. She moved back to Texas and worked several menial jobs to make ends meet. Then American Idol came to town. Her friends encouraged her to enter the contest and she was surprised to discover that she won a spot in the top thirty of the finalists. As the weeks went on within Idol, Kelly was continually chosen to remain on the show by American viewing audiences and judges. She finally made it into the top two contestants and although it was a close race she beat her friend and rival Justin Guarini by a landslide. As per her Idol contract she was given a record deal. Her first single A Moment Like This, from her CD entitled, Thankful, went to number one on the Billboard charts. She later released another CD Breakaway. Several of her singles have gone to the top ten on Billboard. She is greatly loved by fans worldwide. Perhaps all who watched her struggles on the show saw a little of themselves in the girl who would be Idol. Tidbits
