Biography

Hilary Duff was born in Houston, Texas on September 28, 1987. Duff is and actress and pop singer. Additionally, she has created a clothing line called Stuff by Duff and a perfume line as well. Is it me or are a lot of young actresses and singers coming out of the Southern US? At the encouragement of her mother she started taking acting classes alongside her older sister, Haylie at a young age. She soon moved her way to local plays and later to small un-credited TV roles.

Like most actresses and singers she did not experience "overnight" success and was considering leaving the profession after many disappointments. Her mother convinced her to try a little longer before quitting. Within a short time she was given a few choice roles on NBC and a made for TV movie with Melissa Gilbert. From these roles she landed the lead part on Disney Channels Lizzy McGuire. This was the turning point for her career. She starred in Lizzy for a contracted sixty-five episodes. The show was a huge success with tweens and teens which prompted an interesting comparison from New York Daily News writer, Richard Huff. Huff called Duff the ". . .2002 version of Annette Funicello," referring to the Mickey Mouse Club star of the 1950's.

Hilary's second motion picture was, what else, The Lizzy McGuire Movie, which did well at the box-office. She first appeared in the indie film Human Nature in 2002. Soon after Agent Cody Banks, A Cinderella Story and Cheaper By the Dozen followed. All films did especially well in the box office. But like careers, the good comes with the bad. Other films like, Raise Your Voice, Cheaper by The Dozen Two and The Perfect Man did not do as well as her other films. Hilary moved on to pop music and released her first pop CD, Metamorphosis, in 2003. It went to number one in the US and Canada. She followed this with Hilary Duff and Most Wanted. Wanted did much better than her second CD, it went Platinum.

Hilary Duff has some mixed reviews on her singing and acting. Many critics feel she has what it takes to reach super stardom and have a fine acting career. She is certainly loved by numerous Canadians who have purchased millions of copies of her CDs.
