Biography

Jennifer Anne Garner was born on April 17, 1972 in Houston, Texas. Her father was a chemical engineer and her mother a teacher. She has two sisters. She moved to West Virginia with her family when she was four years old; her father had re-located for his job. She studied ballet and the saxophone in high school. She went on to study drama in college when she realized that she had a talent and interest in acting. She graduated from Denison University and planned on attending Yale University to receive her masters in drama. She was sidetracked when during a trip to New York to visit a friend she decided to stay in NY to try her hand at theater before heading to Yale.

Her first job was as an understudy in a play. Her first TV role came when she was cast in the TV movie Zoya. Later she appeared on the popular TV series Law & Order as well as several other TV series and movies. She decided to make the move to Los Angeles, California and worked as a waitress until she was cast in another TV series Felicity on the WB network. In 2001, she appeared as a nurse in the major motion picture, Pearl Harbor, which co-starred Ben Affleck and Kate Beckinsale. That same year she was given her big break, she was ask to audition for Alias. She was subsequently cast as Sydney Bristow which was the lead role. The show immediately became a huge TV hit. Her acting in it earned her a Grammy in 2002. Although her salary started at $45,000.00 per episode within a short time she was receiving $150,000.00 per episode. She began writing and producing some episodes when it reached its fifth season.

She later went back to the big screen, in addition to filming Alias. She made three films in a row in which she had large roles, Daredevil in 2003, 13 Going on 30 in 2004 and Elektra in 2005. All three movies did well at the box-office. Garner formed a production company named Vandalia Films in 2005.

On the personal front, Jennifer dated several of her co-stars. On October 19, 2000, she married actor Scott Foley, who she appeared with on the television show Felicity. The two later separated and were officially divorced in 2004. She later began dating her Daredevil co-star Ben Affleck. In 2005 Garner and Affleck were married at the Parrot Cay resort on the Turks and Caicos Islands; the wedding had not been announced to the press beforehand. Around this period, Garner was pregnant with the couple's first child. Her pregnancy was incorporated into the plot of Alias. On December 1, 2005, she gave birth to their daughter, Violet Anne Affleck.
