Biography

Nicole Mary Kidman, was born born on June 20, 1967 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Her father is Scottish and her mother Irish. Both of her parents were also born in Australia. Her father was a doctor and took a post at the University of Technology in Sydney, Australia when Nicole was four years old. Thus she was raised there. Soon after the family's move she began taking ballet lessons. Later she attended the Australian Theatre for Young People and the Philip Street Theatre. She majored in voice and theatre history. She dropped out of North Sydney Girls High School when her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. She aided her mother with her recovery for some time and then returned to her ambitions of acting.

In 1983 she had appeared in two film roles; BMX Bandits and Bush Christmas. She has since made over thirty-two movies. Some of her most famous and critically acclaimed roles include: Days of Thunder in 1990, (where she met Tom Cruise), Far and Away in 1992, Malice in 1993, To Die For in 1995, Practical Magic in 1998, Moulin Rouge in 2001, The Others in 2001, The Hours in 2002 and Cold Mountain in 2003. Her other roles are too numerous to list. She has more than seven projects either in the filming stage or set for release in the coming years. She is a prolific actress, to say the least. She won the best actress Oscar in 2002 for Moulin Rouge, two SAGs in 2003 for The Hours, and a Golden Globe in 2004 for Cold Mountain, in addition to many other awards.

On the personal front Nicole met actor Tom Cruise on the set of Days of Thunder in 1990. Although he was married at the time, the two began dating and Cruise left his then wife, to marry Kidman in late 1990. The couple adopted two children together. The pair separated in early 2000 and divorced in 2001. Since then she has been dating and has been linked to Lenny Kravitz, Keith Urban and a few other eligible bachelors. She is very private concerning her personal life and does not speak publicly about her dating life or her divorce with Tom Cruise.
