Alexis Bledel
Kimberly Alexis Bledel was born on September 16, 1981 in Houston, Texas. Her father is Argentine and her mother is of Mexican, French and German descent; she has one younger brother. Her first language is Spanish but she speaks English flawlessly. Bledel's parents encouraged her to try community theater at the age of eight to overcome her shyness. She subsequently appeared in local productions of Our Town and The Wizard of Oz before being scouted at a local mall and given work as a model. Bledel studied at the Page Parkes Center for Modeling and Acting and majored in film at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts for one year before landing the role of Rory in the popular WB series The Gilmore Girls. Gilmore Girls was a big break for the young actress and she made her debut on the show in 2000. She plays Lorelai "Rory" Leigh Gilmore, the daughter of single mother Lorelai Victoria Gilmore. Initially, Rory was a high school student living with her mother, but she has since moved on to college at Yale University where she is editor of the Yale Daily News. Bledel has stated that she feels she can relate in some ways to Rory, both when it comes to some personal traits and her relationship to her own parents. She also sees the family structure and mother-daughter relation on the show as something to which many people can relate. In a departure from her clean cut image she took a role as a prostitute named Becky in the 2005 film Sin City. On the personal front she is dating actor Milo Ventimiglia, who played one of her boyfriends, Jess, on Gilmore Girls; they began dating in 2002. Her favorite charity is First Book, a nonprofit organization which gives books to disadvantaged children. Tidbits
