Biography

Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Fuller Olsen were born on June 13, 1986 in Sherman Oaks, California. They are fraternal twins and have been acting since infancy. Their first role was in the hit TV series Full House, which they started in 1987. They were seven months old when filming of the show began. Both sisters played one character, Michelle Tanner, and took turns during taping. This was done in order to comply with strict child labor laws. The producers of the show did not want audiences to know that the role was played by twins thus they credited Michelle Tanner as Mary Kate Ashley Olsen for quite some time. Later, they did give credit to both girls as it had already leaked to the press and was common knowledge the role was played by twins. Full House ran for eight years and the twins made several child's videos which sold well due to their popularity on the show.

Since the end of Full House the Olsen twins have gone on to other endeavors including TV shows, films, commercial endorsements, a clothing line, perfume and accessories. The have made movies all over the world and are reported to be worth over $150 million dollars each. They were named Most Powerful Young Women in Hollywood by Hollywood Reporter.

The girls left acting temporarily to head off to college. In 2004 they announced their plans to attend NYU upon graduating from High School, rather than pursue acting full time. After her break-up with Greek shipping heir Stavros Niarchos III in 2005, Mary-Kate decided to take a break from school and focus on their company DualStar. Ashley remained in New York to continue her studies.
