Famous Indian actress Aishwarya Rai was born on November 1, 1973 in Karnataka, India. She has one brother who is a film producer. Her mother is a writer and her father a Marine Engineer. She has been one of the highest paid actresses in India for several years. She was an A student in college and was studying to be an Architect. She began modeling while in college and also entered a 1994 Miss India contest, she came in second place. She won the Miss World title later that same year. She continued to model for Indian fashion magazines for several years.

She started acting in 1997 and starred in many Indian films. She was considered a star in Bollywood, India. Bollywood is the Hindu version of America's Hollywood. Her breakout role came with Devdas in 2002. It was this film that bought her international recognition. Since she has starred or had roles in over twenty-five films. Many of those films were blockbusters in her home country. She made her American/English cinematic debut in the film Bride and Prejudice in 2004. She also starred in The Mistress of Spices, Provoked, and Last Legion. Many more English speaking roles are in the future for this stunning actress.

She has often been named one of the most beautiful women in the world. TIME Magazine Asia named her one of Asia's "100 Most Influential People." The television show 60 Minutes profiled her in 2005 calling her, "The most beautiful face in Bollywood." She also appeared on Oprah and the David Letterman shows. Actress Julia Roberts has been quoted as saying that Aishwarya is the most beautiful woman she has ever met.
