Alecia Beth Moore was born on September 8, 1979 in Dolyestwon, Pennsylvania. Her father is Irish and German and her mother is Lithuanian. She wanted to be a rock singer at a very young age and her father, who played the guitar for her, encouraged her aspirations. She started her career as a Rhythm and Blues singer when she was signed to LaFace Records. She has often felt this was a mistake because she chose to relinquish creative control to the record label. She was unhappy with the type of music she made at this time, and the image they made for her, including her notorious bright pink hair. Her debut album, Can't Take Me Home was released on April 4, 2000. It was a great success. Since its release it has gone double platinum. For her second album, she took matters into her own hands and decided to lose her pop image in favor of her rocker roots. She changed direction and co-wrote most of the singles for her CD with Linda Perry, former singer in the band 4 Non Blondes. Missundaztood was released in 2001. Get the Party Started went into the top five on Billboard in the United States and hit number one in many other countries. The CD went on to sell five million copies. Her third CD Try This came out in 2003. It reached the top ten spot in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. Her fourth CD I'm Not Dead came out in early 2006. She has gotten great critical reviews for her singing and rocker style. Tidbits
