Biography

Jessica Simpson is the unequivocal Southern Belle of the music industry which has gotten her many comparisons with another Southern pop singer, Brittney Spears. Jessica was born on July 10, 1980 in Abilene, Texas. She was raised by her former Baptist father and former school teacher mother in the suburbs of Dallas, Texas. She started singing young in her church choir and was initially discovered at Christain Camp in her teens.

The Christian Music label signed her to a record deal but the company closed before the release of her CD. This did not deter Simpson, however, and she recorded a Christmas album funded by her grandmother as a demo. She quit high school in her senior year to promote the CD and later earned her GED. The famed Tommy Mottola signed her to Capitol records as a Pop singer after hearing tracks from her Christmas CD.

Her first CD with Columbia Sweet Kisses, went to the twenty-fifth spot on Billboard. It was released in 1999. Her second CD Irresistible went to the top-ten spot in 2001. In 2002 she married her then boyfriend, Nick Lachey a singer from the band 98 Degrees. The two starred on the popular reality series The Newlyweds on MTV. The show ran four seasons and Jessica became famous for the "dumb blonde" persona she displayed. During one episode she had asked her husband if the Chicken of the Sea tuna he had given her for lunch was fish or chicken. The line was parodied and joked about in the media for many months to follow and drew a larger crowd to the show.

She is also noted for telling the former Bush Administration Interior Secretary, Gale Norton, that she did a great job decorating the White House. Quips like these earned her the title of "The Ultimate Dumb Blonde." Given the money she has made from such antics it is often debated whether she is really ignorant or just acting the part. Either way, she's a rich and successful blond. She has been blond bashed via musical critique by the singer Pink who is also blonde. So much for the idea of women supporting one another.

Her first major motion picture role came in the form of The Dukes of Hazard. Given her southern roots, it was a perfect role for her, although, she did not receive the greatest reviews. The movie made a lot of money but, on a whole, was not critically acclaimed; it seems that the role of Daisy Duke was Hazardous to her career, haha. Hopefully her next movie Employee of the Month will do better.
