Biography

Zoe Louise Ball was born on November 23rd, 1970 in Blackpool, Lancashire, United Kingdom. She grew up the daughter of a children's television show presenter, Johnny Ball. She went to school in Buckinghamshire and attended an all girl's convent school. She decided to follow in her fathers footsteps and get into the presenting business. However, one of her first TV jobs came while she acted as an assistant at Granada Television. She also worked as a researcher for BSkyB and several quiz shows.

After becoming a presenter she worked for many high-profile television shows, including The Big Breakfast, Live & Kicking and Playdays, a pre-school program. She gained much celebrity, however, for her co-hosting position for BBC Radio 1 with Kevin Greening. She took the job in 1997, due to her popularity and professionalism and she was later promoted and became the first solo female host of the prestigious show. She was notorious during her years at Radio 1 for her Ladette lifestyle. The Ladette culture is a female version of the Lad culture popular in the UK which primarily involves a love of Sex & Drugs and Rock n' Roll. In March of 2000 Ball abandoned both the Ladette lifestyle and Radio 1 in favor of marriage and motherhood. She married musician Norman Cook, who is better known as Fatboy Slim, in August of 1999. She made her departure from R1 on March 30th, 2000 and was replaced by her longtime friend Sara Cox, who was also a Ladette. While she devoted much of her time in the following years to raise her son, who was born in December of 2000, she has appeared sporadically on TV and radio. She co-hosted the 2002 BRIT Awards, and presented on the Weekday Drivetime Show for XFM Radio in 2002 as well. In 2004 she hosted an evening program for XFM, but left the station at the end of 2004. She also appeared as co-host in 2005 for Strictly Dance Fever on the BBC and was a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing.
