Biography

Charisma Lee Carpenter was born on July 23rd, 1970 in Las Vegas, Nevada. She is of Cherokee and Mexican decent. When she was five years old she began studying classical ballet and continued these lessons into her teens. She began attending Bishop Gorman Catholic High School in Nevada, but she moved before she could graduate to Mexico and then San Diego; there she attended Bonita High School. After graduation she tried out for and won a spot on the San Diego Chargers cheerleading squad. At this time she also participated in many television commercials. She also had guest appearances on Baywatch and Miss Match.

In 1996 she had a role on the TV series Malibu Shores, however, it was the following year that she was cast in the role that would bring her much attention and other acting opportunities. In 1997 she auditioned for the role of Buffy for the popular WB series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The role went to Sarah Michelle Geller, however, Charisma's talent did not go without notice, the directors cast her in a supporting role as Cordelia on the show instead. While initially disappointed at losing the role of Buffy, she later admitted that Cordelia, a wise cracking, intuitive, but shallow, cheerleader, was a better character for her and led to opportunities that suited her better later on. She appeared on Buffy the Vampire Slayer from season one through season three.

Carpenter followed Buffy with a central role on a spin-off of the show, Angel, with David Boreanaz, who was also a supporting character on Buffy, and that character's love interest from season one through three. Boreanaz's character became so popular that it inspired a strong following for the show. The series ran from 1999 to 2004 and did very well in the ratings, at times better than Buffy had in the past. Charisma carried her role of Cordelia over to Angel and the character was given more dimension and considerably more screen time. When Angel was not renewed for a sixth season, Carpenter moved to the series Veronica Mars. She began her role of Kendall Casablancas in 2005.

On the personal front Charisma married Damien Hardy on October 5th, 2002. The couple had a son on March 24th, 2003.
