Biography

Anna Sergeyevna Kournikova was born on June 7, 1981 in Moscow, Russia. She is well known for her beauty, but she is not just another pretty face, she is an accomplished and champion winning tennis player. Her father and mother were both young and athletic when they gave birth to Anna and they attribute this to her athleticism. She was given her first tennis racket at age five and took lessons two times a week for some time. The lessons were considered just for fun and also to give Anna an outlet for her high energy. She is an only child and when she started to show talent at tennis at the age of seven her parents devoted their time to taking her to tennis academy after school. She loved tennis and thought of it as fun. She was only ten years old when she was enrolled in the Bollettieri Tennis Academy in Bradenton, Florida. She quickly earned the admiration of instructors and fellow students.

She won the Italian Open in 1995; she was only fourteen at the time. She went on to win numerous matches in singles and doubles. Martina Hingus was her favored doubles partner. Hingus's quiet, understated personality was the perfect foil for Anna's feisty, outgoing arrogance. The two were often photographed on the court. Anna's blue eyed, blond good looks caught the attention of the media and she became known all over the world, even outside of tennis circles.

She has appeared on the cover of Maxim, and Sports Illustrated. She also appeared in the Sport's Illustrated Swimsuit Issue of 2004-2005. She was voted ESPN's hottest female athlete. Although, she has received much acclaim for her looks, she always remained first a tennis player. She has not, to date, ever appeared topless in any of her photo shoots and states that she will never do so. She has been stalked by numerous fans and in one outrageous incident a fan swam naked across the Biscayne Bay in an attempt to find her home. He was subsequently arrested.
