Biography

Courteney Cox was born on June 15th 1964 in Birmingham, Alabama. She is the youngest member of a wealthy Southern family and has three older siblings, two sisters and one brother. Her late father was a successful contractor and her mother was a stay at home mom. In addition to her three siblings she has nine half-brothers and sisters, making her sibling count a whopping total of twelve. Her parents divorced when she was ten years old and her father moved to Florida and re-married. Her mother also re-married, to businessman Hunter Copeland. She has been quoted as saying that after her father left she became very rebellious and gave her mother and step-father a run for their money by getting into large amounts of trouble.

Cox grew up in Mountain Brook, Alabama and attended Mountain Brook High School. She was very athletic and was active in tennis, swimming and cheerleading. After high school she went on to study architecture and interior design at Mount Vernon College for Women. She left college early to pursue her modeling career. She was subsequently signed by the Ford Modeling Agency in New York City and modeled for some time; however, her ultimate goal was to become an actress. She studied acting and took voice lessons to rid herself of her Southern accent. Her work paid off and she soon got a small part in As the World Turns in 1984 at age twenty, she followed this with an appearance in Bruce Springsteen's video Dancing in The Dark which was directed by the famous Brian DePalma. A year later she moved to Los Angeles and appeared in Misfits of Science.

She had a lull for a brief time and then in the early 1990's won a role in Mr. Destiny and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. Her fame and fortune came a year later when she was cast as the neurotic, controlling Monica Geller on the long-running and highly successful NBC sitcom, Friends. The show aired in September of 1994 and ran until May of 2004, at the time it was the longest running sitcom in TV history. During her stint on Friends she also appeared in several movies including: Scream I, II and III, The Runner, Commandments, 3000 miles to Graceland, The Shrink is In, and November. After the show ended she also had roles in The Longest Yard, Alpha Dog, Barnyard and Zoom.

On June 12th, 1999 she married Scream co-star David Arquette in San Francisco. The couple had their first child, Coco, in June of 2004. Coco is named after Courteney Cox's mother, who is also named Courteney, but uses Coco as a nickname. Jennifer Aniston is the child's godmother.
