Drew Barrymore
Drew Blyth Barrymore was born February 22, 1975 in Culver City, California. She was born into a family of actors and started acting herself at a very early age. Her grandfather was John Barrymore who was a very popular stage and screen actor in the 1920's and 1930's. He was also notorious for his personal life and heavy drinking. Her grandmother was Dolores Costello who was also a very popular screen and stage actress. Her father, John Drew Barrymore was also an actor and her mother, Jaid Mako, was an actress and model. At the young age of eleven months her parents had her film a dog food commercial. She was in several other TV commercials and landed her first motion picture screen role at the age of five in the movie Altered States. Already a precocious actress she was then cast in E.T. The Extra Terrestrial by her godfather, Steven Spielberg. She was seven years old at the time of filming. Her role in this film earned her early fame and recognition as a tiny rising star which was polarized by her family's long history of acting fame. She continued to act throughout her childhood appearing in films such as, FireStarter, Irreconcilable Differences and Cat's Eye, all by the time she was ten years old. She made her transition into teen acting in the films See You In the Morning and Far From Home. By this time she had already been experiencing the adult world of drugs and alcohol. She was drinking alcohol by the age of nine and smoking pot at the age of ten. By the time she was twelve she was already snorting cocaine. Her life suffered dramatically from this over exposure to the party lifestyle at such a young age. In 1988 her mother decided to take action and put Drew in a rehabilitation program to help her stop her drug and alcohol use. The following year she published a book about her experiences in the world of Hollywood addiction, Little Girl Lost came out when she was fourteen. She continued to act and made a come-back by turning sexy bad girl in her role in Poison Ivy in 1992. She was seventeen when the film was released; she also appeared in Gun Crazy at that time. She later posed nude for Playboy. She went on to create her own production company, Flower Films, and produced several movies to date, most famously Never Been Kissed, Charlie's Angels and Donnie Darko. She married comedian Tom Green in 2001, the couple later divorced in 2002. She continues to act and produce. Tidbits
