Teri Hatcher
Teri Lynn Hatcher was born on December 8, 1964 in Sunnyvale, California. She was an only child of an electrical engineer and a computer scientist. She revealed to Vanity Fair magazine in 2006 that she was molested by her aunt's husband, Richard Hayes Stone, from the time she was five years old. This caused her much pain and difficulty growing up. Her parents were completely unaware of the crime. She attended Fremont High School and De Anza College in Cupertino. She later studied acting at the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco. While her most notable role was as Lois Lane in the TV series Lois and Clark she has also had roles in major motion picture films including Dead in The Water in 1991, Heaven's Prisoners in 1996, Tomorrow Never Dies in 1997, and Spy Kids in 2001. Her role in Spy Kids served to re-launch her career and helped her secure her role in the popular TV series Desperate Housewives. She also appeared in a series of popular Radio Shack television commercials alongside NFL Hall of Famer Howie Long. The pair remain close friends, and together have bought farm land on the outside of Los Angeles, with the intent of eventually raising endangered species. In 2002, she participated in the most important venture of her life; she assisted Santa Clara County, California prosecutors in indicting her abuser Richard Stone for another molestation he was charged with that resulted in his female victim's suicide at the age of 14. Stone pleaded guilty to four counts of molestation and was sentenced to 14 years in prison. Teri continues her role as single mother Susan Mayer on ABC's Desperate Housewives, for which she won the Best Actress Golden Globe Award in January 2005. She also won a SAG for her role in 2005, she was also nominated for an Emmy Award along with several of her co-stars in the series. As of April 2006, Hatcher is one of the highest paid television actresses in the United States. She reportedly earns $380,000 per episode of Desperate Housewives. In May 2006 she released her first book, Burnt Toast: And Other Philosophies of Life, described as a personal, heartfelt, and often very funny manifesto on life, love, and the lessons we all need to learn. In conjunction with the book, Teri has also launched a line of "Burnt Toast" apparel and other merchandise, for sale directly from her new www.myburnttoast.com website. On the personal front she married Marcus Leithold in 1988, but the marriage lasted only six months and couple divorced in 1989. In 1994, she married actor Jon Tenney; they had a daughter in 1997, and divorced in 2003. It was reported that she was forced to give Tenney half of her savings in the settlement as he apparently had no money of his own. Tidbits
